Anniversary Open Weekend

Metropolitan Leather Co Ltd turns 100 years young in 2019 and to celebrate we are having an open weekend.

We'll be getting the bunting out from September 6th  - 9th, 10am to 4pm and as a valued customer you are invited to come along and help us celebrate.

You'll be able to see us at work creating our beautiful range of leathers, how we treat them and what you can do with them.

We'll have 4 leather crafting experts on hand to show you how to work with our leathers and offering some special tips and tricks - feel free to ask them anything you want about leather and leather crafting.

A Little About Our Experts

Sarah Williams

The ethos behind Williams Handmade is produce truly unique, sculptural, timeless pieces while raising the appreciation of hand craftsmanship. Sarah also runs a series of short courses from the workshop where you can learn to make your own leather goods. You can see more about Williams Handmade and Sarah at williamshandmade.com/about-us/

Jason Stock Young

Several years ago, a change of environment inspired a change of career for Jason: a move from London to the foothills of the Pennines re-kindled a passion to create and make, using the material that so many of his well-worn and well-used accessories are made from – Leather. Jason now has his own workshop in Saddleworth where he stay's true to his original ethos of making all leather goods by hand, with hand-stitching at the core. His products combine function and durability and he uses each item during the development process, to understand how the leather behaves and to just see if it feels right. If it doesn’t, it gets reworked until it does. Find out more about Jason at www.jsyleatherworks.co.uk.

Justin Capp

There's not much we can say about Justin other than we reckon the state of his studio is inversely proportionate to the genius and creativity he brings to leather working. No doubt he will bring some of that creativity and brilliance, and just a few of his studio tools, with him on the day and blow everyone away with his creations. His recent work features beautiful leather masks, leather stamping and beetle inspired accessories commissioned by Jiles Deacon.

If you are new to the craft and want to learn more, or are an experienced leather worker interested in seeing some other tricks of the trade, come along and find out more from the experts.
